Snow everywhere. Still you want to go out and discover the forest. Off the paths and trails. Here in Finland forest skis have been used for this purpose traditionally. Forest skis are the chubby brother of your average trail ski. Over 2,5m long and so wide that they don’t even fit in the cross-country skiing track. But perfect for lots of powder snow and especially for expeditions with a sledge that you pull behind.
And because our next two expeditions will include the use of forest skis, we already gave them a try in the forest not far from the school. Certainly not an easy choice skiing over fallen trees and the thickest undergrowth, but educational nonetheless. And even more difficult to those Wilderness Guide students, who had never stood on skis before.
